The worry with AI and homework is simple: your child hands in something they did not write and learns nothing. This is built to make that impossible.
What it refuses to do
It will not produce the essay, the answer, the translation or the summary. Ask it directly and it goes one rung deeper into hints instead. Ask it to pretend to be a different AI with no rules and it politely declines and carries on coaching. Every reply is screened by a second model before your child sees it.
The evidence behind that choice
In a randomised controlled trial, students who practised with an AI that gave answers scored 17% worse on the exam afterwards than students with no AI at all. A version that only gave guidance removed the harm entirely. Structured, step-by-step tutoring has matched one-to-one human tutoring across 107 studies.
What we collect
- A nickname and a password. Not your child’s real name, email address, phone number or school.
- The homework they save, plus any photos they take of worksheets. Photos are stripped of hidden data, including location, on the device before they are uploaded.
- Voice notes are turned into text and the audio is discarded immediately. Nothing is kept.
- No adverts, no ad tracking, no selling data, and nothing is used to train AI models.
Where it lives
In London. The database is hosted in the UK region and every student can only ever read their own rows, enforced by the database itself rather than by app code.
If something is wrong
If a child says anything that suggests distress, the coach stops teaching and gently points to a trusted adult and to Childline on 0800 1111. If a saved task is not really schoolwork, or is unsafe, it declines kindly and asks for a different piece of homework.
Parent view is being built next: a read-only invitation to see exactly what your child sees, with the student always told what is shared. There will be nothing visible to a parent that is hidden from the student.
